Leask Clan History:
The Leask clan is considered historical. Their history dates back centuries, with documented evidence of the family in Aberdeenshire as far back as the 13th century. The name Leask is believed to be derived from the lands of Leask, now Pitlurg, in Aberdeenshire. The clan also has possible connections to a tribal chief in Gaul described by Julius Caesar and a Norman family from the Castle of Boulogne.
The earliest documented mention of the Leask name is in 1296, when William de Laskereske is listed on the Ragman Roll, submitting to Edward I.
In 1345, David II granted a charter to William Leask for the lands of Leskgaronne.
In 1380, William Leask, Lord of that Ilk, is recorded as bequeathing a pound of wax annually to the church at Ellon.
A younger son of the Leask family traveled to Orkney in the mid-15th century, establishing a branch of the family there.
